Christian
Education
Montreat
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
The Christian
Education Committee is responsible for providing opportunities for
faith formation and growth for the children, visiting grandchildren,
and adults of the church. We also have a collegiate ministry with
Montreat College and Warren Wilson College Students.
College Ministry
College Students - The
College Conference at Montreat, January 2-5, 2011, will be
outstanding with Brian McLaren
and Aimee Wallis Buchanan as
popular keynoters. McLaren was a leader at the Church Unbound
Conference in August and preached August 15 in Anderson
Auditorium. His latest book, A
New Kind of Christianity, is at the book store. Aimee
Wallis Buchanan has an exciting new mission ministry for
high school and college people. We sponsor college students each
year at this excellent conference. If you know of a college
student who might be interested, have them contact Gil Campbell.
Jessica (Jesse)
Dimmock was
recognized in May for her recent graduation from Davidson
College. She joined her brother, Moses,
who
graduated
in
December
from
Pembroke
State University, as our second
college graduate. Their father, Frank
Dimmock, received an Honorary Doctorate from Davidson College,
as well. The church presented Jesse with a small Bible of her choice
and gave Frank an “Ice Cream with the Doc” party! See photo here.

Children’s
Ministry
Nursery - We are delighted that Grace Nichols
will be the Nursery Coordinator this year and Katie Dimmock, one of our members
and a college student, will be the Nursery worker! A volunteer
from the congregation will join Katie each Sunday. The Nursery for
children Infant-4 years olds begins September 19 in Updike behind
Walkup.
Tabernacle Time
will continue during the sermon for visiting children and grandchildren
K-6. The teachers will be using Peterson’s My First Message, which has 50
Bible stories and questions for discussion. The children will then
illustrate the story on a take home sheet. The Tabernacle will convene
when we worship in Walkup. Dora
Hinkle is the Tabernacle Coordinator.
Marketplace Egypt: The Story of
Joseph - Volunteers had a great time this summer at the Community Bible
School with Montreat- EPC and other churches in the valley. We
had a shop with Black Mountain Presbyterian Church where the children
made headbands with hieroglyphics for TRUST GOD and painted
wooden, bendable snakes and fish! Over 220 children participated
in this exciting way to experience the wonderful story of Joseph.
